The tradition
Classical feng shui teaches that a mirror facing the bed can "bounce" restless energy back at sleepers, disturbing sleep and — in some interpretations — inviting third parties into a relationship. Whether or not you follow feng shui, the placement rule creates a useful design guideline.
Feng-shui-friendly placements
- Above the headboard. Reflection points away from the bed. Best placement for a 48×28 arched mirror.
- Above the dresser. Reflection points across the room, not at the bed.
- Leaning in a corner. Angle it so the bed isn't in the reflection.
- Inside a closet door. Closed by default; opened only when getting dressed.
Practical Canadian bedroom tips
- Canadian primary bedrooms are typically 12×14 or larger — plenty of wall space for both a headboard mirror and a full-length in the corner.
- In older Toronto Victorians with smaller bedrooms, prioritize a single 32×20 arched above the dresser.
- In Vancouver condos, the full-length arched inside the closet door is the highest-impact single move.
